Be a part of history by visiting The Meadows. A working farm since 1752 and the ancestral home of General George Patton, we continue to offer a warm welcome and hospitality to our visitors.

We are located in Lindsay, Virginia, a convenient 1/2 hour northeast of Charlottesville and 20 minutes south of Orange at 7877 Meadows Farm, just off Route 231.
Events
At The Meadows our ethos is "Grow with us" and we'd like to invite you into every aspect of farming here. We will host monthly events so that you can participate in farm activities.

If you are looking for more than a day visit, you are most welcome to stay in our renovated kitchen house, the former summer kitchen at The Meadows.
Hallowed Ground
Patented in 1752 to Captain John Pierce of Hanover County, The Meadows grew to be one of the largest plantations in the area. At one time, it shared a property line with Castle Hill, over five miles away.
The House
Though the central part of the house was built early in its existence, the current floor plan was finished by the Lindsay family. They and their Patton descendants, cared for The Meadows for over a century.
The Pattons
In 1853, Sarah Lindsay Patton inherited The Meadows from her grandfather. The Meadows then became home to the larger Patton family who moved in bulk to The Meadows at the outbreak of the Civil War. Sarah and her husband John Mercer Patton welcomed the family, including Patton's widowed mother whose husband served as Governor of Virginia. All five Patton sons served the Confederacy during the Civil War, two sacrificing their lives on the battlefield: Col. George Patton, Sr. died at Third Winchester (he is the grandfather of Gen. George Patton of WWII fame) and Col. W. Tazewell Patton who died leading his troops at Gettysburg.
20th Century
The current facade of the house was created during the ownership of Sue Erskine Edholm in the early 20th Century. Restoring old homes was a passion of Mrs. Edholm, whose efforts are reflected in other nearby houses.
The Merricks
For 75 years, The Meadows was a cattle farm operated by Tom and Margery Merrick. During their time here, The Meadows was knows as a haven of hospitality where good conversations and merriment were ever to be found.
Our Family
In 2022 the Pearson family took on the stewardship of The Meadows. Covid helped them to distill what was truly important in life, so they moved to Virginia.
Andrew and Lauren continue to operate the farm where they grow flowers and tend Katahdin sheep. You will also find any number of dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks around as well.
Their three daughters continue to hold vigorous discussions concerning the division of labor and whether or not mom and dad have lost their minds.
